NAMES FOR LEATHER CLOTHING ARTICLES AND TYPES
As the years go by more and more people acquire more and more leather clothes. Previously leather clothes were considered as a luxury item. Everybody dreamed of having a leather cloth. Now the dream came true for the most if not for all. But what is the origin of our leather clothes? Have we thought of it? What animals?
Old rumor was that good suede was one of antelope. Leather clothes come from animals used by man for food (calves, cows, pigs, sheep and goats). The size and weight of our leather clothing is depending on the weight and size of the animal.
You will see that each leather garment consists of several parts, joined by seams.
DRY CLEANING PROCESSING OF LEATHER – IT HIDES THOUSANDS OF SECRETS
The leather cleaning treatment is special, but because of the fact that a leather garment is sewn using pieces from different parts of the animal body, as a rule there is a dissimilarity in its characteristics, which are likely to occur, especially after the first cleaning.
So there is a chance deviations from the original color to appear, or from the original flexibility and imperfections that were existing on the skin of the animal before sewing such as scars, scratches, wrinkles were successfully "camouflaged" so as the leather garment shows impeccable. Seams that are stuck with glue, not sewn, may open when the liquid dry cleaning is used and the adhesive to spread and create shadows. Old stains, as the remaining skin is cleaned, might become more apparent.
Over time the colors that the leather garments are dyed are oxidized and fade, especially in areas that are more exposed to light. Talk to your personal laundry and trust your leather in responsible hands!
The leather clothes we wear are made primarily of 3 leather classes from 3 categories of animals:
a. from calves or cows,
b. from lambs or goats,
c. from pork.
CATEGORIES - LEATHER NAMES BASED ON THEIR TREATMENT
Α. Suede ή καστόρι is called the skins pile, like velvet. It is the inside of the skin of the animal.
Β. Napa or glutinous are called the skins which are painted with spray or brush. Their surface is smooth after the paint dried and somewhat hard because of paint. This style is old and not used in recent years. Motorcyclist jackets are made in this way and also some of our shoes.
C. Nabucco or chamois leather is soft, smooth and have no pile. Their dying is done in large rotating tubes, such as industrial laundries.
D. Mouton-Sheep skin is the skin of the sheep with the coat. These clothes have inside the fur and their external image is suede.
Avoid very thin skins when you buy leather clothes, because they don’t withstand any treatment. Prefer reputable selling stores.
Brush your leather clothes often, in case they are leathers with pile (suede), or run them with a wet cloth if they are glossy leathers.
Do not exposeyour leather garment in the rain and if that happens let it dry naturally.
Do not wait till it gets very dirty before you get it to the dry cleaner.
Do not attempt to clean it by yourself. Give it to selected cleaners.
The manufacturing quality, care and proper cleaning can keep your leather immortal.
